The Full Moon Ritual I Return to Every Month
A little ritual. A little reflection. A moment to reset.
There is something about a full moon that always makes me want to slow down.
I have been doing full moon meditations for many years. For me, they have become a simple ritual—a moment to step away from the noise, check in with myself, and think about what I want to carry forward…and what I’m ready to leave behind.
A Time to Release
The moon moves through its cycle over roughly 29½ days, from new moon to full moon and back again.
While the new moon is often associated with beginnings and setting intentions, the full moon has traditionally been a time for illumination, reflection, and release.
I love that idea. It really resonates with me.
Not because I believe everything magically changes when the moon is full, but because sometimes we need a reason to stop and ask ourselves:
What am I holding onto that no longer serves me?
A worry. A resentment. An expectation. A habit. Even an idea of how something or someone should be.
For me, the full moon creates that pause.
My Full Moon Ritual
My ritual isn't complicated. In fact, that's part of what I love about it.
I find a quiet space and light lots of candles. I start with a little gentle yoga and stretching to settle my body, followed by a few minutes of deep breathing.
Then I meditate.
I think about what has happened since the last full moon. What feels good? What feels heavy? What do I want more of? And most importantly, what am I ready to let go of?
Sometimes I write it down. Sometimes I simply sit with it.
Nothing elaborate. Just a little time to reconnect with myself.
Full Moon Meditation
Illuminate. Reflect. Release.
Following the moon cycle isn't a quick fix for manifesting the life you want.
Life doesn't work that way.
For me, the moon is much more about awareness than accomplishment. It gives me a rhythm for checking in with myself, noticing where I am, and consciously deciding where I'd like to go next.
The rest is still up to us.
When the next full moon arrives, I'll light my candles, take a few deep breaths, and ask myself one simple question:
What am I ready to release?
Maybe you will too.
MBellished Tip
Make the ritual your own. Dim the lights, light a favorite candle, put on music, make tea, journal, stretch, or simply sit quietly for ten minutes. There are no rules.
The point is simply to create a little space for yourself.
